Test Preparation Guidance - IELTS, TOEFL, GRE & GMAT
- 70-80% Students Improve 0.5-1.5 Bands
- 12-Week Study Plans
- Resource Recommendations
Expert guidance to achieve required test scores. We don’t teach (we’re not a test prep center) – we guide strategy, recommend resources, track progress, and keep you accountable.
Important Clarification
We Guide, We Don’t Teach
⚠️ WHAT WE ARE vs WHAT WE’RE NOT
✅ WHAT WE ARE:
– Test prep strategists (we create personalized study plans)
– Resource curators (we recommend best books, apps, courses)
– Progress trackers (we monitor your practice test scores)
– Accountability partners (we keep you on track)
❌ WHAT WE’RE NOT:
– Test prep center (we don’t conduct classes)
– IELTS/TOEFL teachers (we don’t teach grammar, vocabulary)
– Tutoring service (we don’t provide one-on-one lessons)
Analogy:
– Test prep center = Gym with personal trainer (teaches you exercises, corrects form)
– We = Fitness coach (creates workout plan, tracks progress, holds you accountable – but YOU do the workout)
If You Need:
– Classes: British Council, Pacans (Lahore), AEO (IELTS prep centers)
– One-on-one tutoring: Private tutors (we can recommend)
– Self-study with guidance: US (our service!)
Our Role:
We guide DIY (do-it-yourself) test prep – providing roadmap, resources, tracking, motivation.

How We Guide Your Test Preparation
6 Step Process
DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT (Week 1)
What We Do:
– You take diagnostic practice test (full-length IELTS/TOEFL/GRE under timed conditions)
– We analyze results:
– Current score (where are you now?)
– Weak sections (which section needs most work?)
– Error patterns (what types of questions do you get wrong?)
Example (IELTS):
Current Scores:
– Listening: 6.5 (good!)
– Reading: 6.0 (okay)
– Writing: 5.5 (weak)
– Speaking: 6.0 (okay)
– Overall: 6.0
Analysis:
– Strength: Listening (maintain this)
– Focus Area: Writing (biggest opportunity for improvement)
– Secondary Focus: Reading (boost to 6.5)
– Speaking: Okay but could improve to 6.5
Target Score: 6.5 overall
– Listening: Maintain 6.5
– Reading: Improve to 6.5 (gain 0.5 bands)
– Writing: Improve to 6.0 (gain 0.5 bands)
– Speaking: Improve to 6.5 (gain 0.5 bands)
Gap: Need +0.5 improvement (achievable in 12 weeks)
Deliverable: Diagnostic report (current level, target score, gap analysis)

– Which section needs more focus? (Rebalance study time)
– Motivational feedback (Great progress! Keep going!)
– Red flags (If score declining, something wrong – we discuss)
Deliverable: Progress tracking sheet (shared Google Sheet updated bi-weekly)
ACCOUNTABILITY & MOTIVATION (Throughout 12 Weeks)
What We Do:
– Weekly check-ins (WhatsApp message: “How’s study going? On schedule?”)
– Reminders (Practice test this weekend – don’t forget!)
– Motivation (When you’re frustrated after bad practice test: “This is normal, keep going!”)
– Problem-solving (Stuck on Reading comprehension? Let’s discuss strategies)
Why This Matters:
– Test prep is BORING (nobody likes studying for tests)
– Easy to procrastinate (I’ll study tomorrow…)
– Easy to give up (after bad practice test: I’ll never improve!)
– Having someone check on you = accountability (can’t skip study sessions)
What We DON’T Do:
– We don’t nag daily (that’s annoying)
– We don’t guilt-trip (you’re adult, your responsibility)
– We provide supportive accountability (gentle reminders, encouragement)
Deliverable: Ongoin
TEST REGISTRATION & TEST-DAY STRATEGY (Week 10-11)
Test Registration Guidance:
When to Register:
– Book test 4-6 weeks in advance (test centers fill up!)
– Take test in Week 12 of study plan (after preparation complete)
Which Test Center:
IELTS (Pakistan):
– British Council: Multiple locations (Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Faisalabad, Multan, etc.)
– IDP: Fewer locations but same test
Computer-Based vs Paper-Based:
– Computer-based: Type essays (faster if you type well), results in 3-5 days (vs 13 days paper)
– Paper-based: Write by hand, results in 13 days
– Our recommendation: Computer-based (faster results, easier editing)
Registration Process:
– Create account on britishcouncil.pk or idp.com
– Select test date + location
– Pay PKR 45-50K
– Receive confirmation email
– Confirmation contains: Test date, time, location, what to bring
What to Bring on Test Day:
✓ Passport (ORIGINAL – photocopy not accepted!)
✓ Confirmation email (printed or on phone)
✓ Pencils/Pens (if paper-based)
✓ Water bottle (stay hydrated)
✗ Phone (not allowed in test room – leave in car or locker)
✗ Smart watch (not allowed)
✗ Food/snacks (not allowed in test room)
Test-Day Strategy:
Night Before:
– Light review (vocabulary, formulas)
– Early sleep (8 hours – tired = lower score)
– Pack bag (passport, confirmation, pencils)
Morning Of:
– Light breakfast (not too heavy – bathroom breaks limited during test)
– Arrive 30 min early (security check, registration takes time)
– Calm nerves (deep breathing, positive self-talk)
During Test:
IELTS Strategy:
– Listening: Read questions ahead (before audio plays – use prep time)
– Reading: Skim first, then questions (don’t read entire passage first – waste of time)
– Writing: Plan before writing (5 min outline = better essay than jump straight to writing)
– Speaking: Elaborate (don’t give one-word answers – explain, give examples)
Time Management:
– Listening: Can’t control time (audio plays once – must listen)
– Reading: 20 min per passage (60 min total / 3 passages)
– Writing: Task 1 = 20 min (150 words), Task 2 = 40 min (250 words)
– Speaking: Examiner controls time (just answer fully)
If You’re Stuck:
– Move on (don’t waste 5 min on one question – come back if time)
– Guess (no negative marking – always answer everything)
– Stay calm (one bad section doesn’t ruin overall score)
After Test:
– Results: 3-13 days (depending on computer vs paper)
– We review results together (analyze score report, discuss if retake needed)
Deliverable: Test registration guidance, test-day strategy document
What Score Improvements Are Realistic?
IELTS IMPROVEMENT (70% of Students Improve):
Starting Level 4.5-5.0 → Target 6.0-6.5:
– Improvement needed: 1.0-1.5 bands (significant)
– Timeline: 12-16 weeks intensive study (3 hours/day minimum)
– Success rate: 70% achieve target (with disciplined study)
– Typical outcome: 5.0 → 6.5 (1.5 bands gain – excellent!)
Starting Level 5.5-6.0 → Target 6.5-7.0:
– Improvement needed: 0.5-1.0 bands (moderate)
– Timeline: 8-12 weeks study (2 hours/day)
– Success rate: 75% achieve target
– Typical outcome: 6.0 → 6.5 (0.5 bands – most common)
Starting Level 6.5-7.0 → Target 7.5-8.0:
– Improvement needed: 0.5-1.0 bands (difficult at high level)
– Timeline: 8-12 weeks targeted practice (focus weak sections)
– Success rate: 60% achieve target (harder to improve at high levels)
– Typical outcome: 7.0 → 7.5 (0.5 bands)
Starting Level 7.5+ → Target 8.0+:
– Improvement needed: 0.5+ bands (VERY difficult)
– Timeline: 12+ weeks (diminishing returns)
– Success rate: 40% achieve 8.0+ (very hard to score 8.0+ – near-native level)
– Recommendation: If you have 7.5, that’s excellent! Retest only if absolutely necessary (most universities accept 7.0-7.5)
Factors Affecting Improvement:
✓ Study discipline (students who study 2-3 hours daily improve)
✗ Sporadic study (study 1 week, skip 2 weeks = minimal improvement)
✓ Weak section focus (target weakest section = biggest gains)
✗ Equal time all sections (waste time on strong sections)
✓ Practice tests (simulate real conditions = build stamina)
✗ No practice tests (surprised on actual test day)
Average Improvement: 0.5-1.0 bands in 12 weeks (for students starting 5.0-6.5)
RETAKE STATISTICS:
First Attempt:
– 30% achieve target score (great! Done!)
– 50% score 0.5 bands below target (close! Retake recommended)
– 20% score 1.0+ bands below target (need more prep, retake in 2-3 months)
Second Attempt (After Targeted Improvement):
– 70% achieve target score (much better odds!)
– Most common: First attempt 6.0, target 6.5 → Second attempt 6.5-7.0 (achieved!)
Third Attempt (If Still Below Target):
– 40% achieve target (odds decrease – maybe reassess target or study strategy)
– Consider: Is target realistic for current English level? Should you improve English fundamentally (not just test-taking)?
Cost of Retakes:
– Each IELTS attempt: PKR 45-50K
– 3 attempts: PKR 135-150K (expensive!)
– Our guidance helps minimize retakes (better preparation = higher first-attempt success)
WHO STRUGGLES? WHO SUCCEEDS?
Students Who Struggle (Don’t Improve Much):
– Sporadic study (inconsistent, not disciplined)
– Only practice tests (take mocks but don’t review mistakes)
– No weak section focus (study everything equally)
– Unrealistic timeline (trying to improve 2 bands in 4 weeks – not enough time)
– English fundamentally weak (need ESL classes, not just test prep)
Students Who Succeed (Achieve Target):
– Disciplined (2-3 hours daily, every day)
– Strategic (focus weak sections, review mistakes)
– Practice tests + review (take mock test, then spend 2-3 hours analyzing errors)
– Realistic timeline (12 weeks for 0.5-1.0 bands improvement)
– Accountability (check in with us, stay on track)
Our Role: Guide you to be in “success” category (study plan, tracking, accountability)

FAQs
Do you teach IELTS/TOEFL classes?
No. We’re not a test prep center. We provide guidance (study plan, resources, tracking, accountability) but don’t conduct classes. If you need actual teaching: British Council, Pacans, or private tutors. Our service is for self-study guidance.
Can I improve 2 bands in 6 weeks?
Very unlikely. Realistic improvement: 0.5-1.0 bands in 12 weeks (with disciplined study). 2 bands requires 16-20 weeks typically. If you only have 6 weeks: Focus on weak section (might improve overall by 0.5 bands), but don’t expect 2 bands jump.
Should I take IELTS or TOEFL?
Depends on target country:
– UK/Canada/Australia: IELTS preferred (most common)
– USA: TOEFL more common (but many accept IELTS too)
– Personal preference: IELTS has face-to-face speaking (some prefer), TOEFL all computer-based (some prefer typing over handwriting)
We help you decide based on your situation.
What if I don't achieve target score after 12 weeks?
We analyze why:
– Did you follow study plan? (If no, that’s why)
– Which section dragged you down? (Focus that section more)
– Was target realistic? (Maybe need more time)
Then: Extended guidance for retake (additional 4-8 weeks preparation), discounted rate for continued support.
Do you guarantee score improvement?
No. Improvement depends on YOUR effort (study discipline, practice). We provide roadmap, resources, tracking, accountability – but YOU must do the actual study. However: 70-80% of disciplined students improve 0.5-1.5 bands with our guidance.
Can I get feedback on my writing/speaking?
Limited. We review your essays (provide suggestions), listen to speaking recordings (point out issues). But we’re not trained IELTS examiners. For detailed feedback: IELTS Writing Tutor app (paid), British Council writing feedback service, or private tutors.
Which test is easier - IELTS or TOEFL?
Subjective (depends on your strengths):
– IELTS easier if: You prefer face-to-face speaking, don’t mind handwriting essays, good at quick reading
– TOEFL easier if: You prefer computer-based everything, type faster than write, good at note-taking (TOEFL listening longer)
Neither is objectively “easier” – both test English proficiency.
Do I need GRE for Master's programs?
Depends on university and program:
– USA universities: Many require GRE (especially top universities, STEM programs)
– Canadian universities: Some require, some don’t (check specific university)
– UK/Australia: Usually NOT required for Master’s (only for PhD sometimes)
We help you check if GRE needed for your target universities (many students waste time/money on GRE when not needed!).
