University Merit Scholarship Guidance

We help you identify scholarship-friendly universities and optimize your applications for automatic merit awards. 35-40% of our students receive merit scholarships (PKR 1-7 lakh/year reduction in tuition).

Backed by Ali Hassan’s 5+ years proven success: PKR 15+ crore in merit scholarships secured for students since 2021.

*IMPORTANT NOTE
This page focuses ONLY on university merit-based scholarships (automatic scholarships). External/fully-funded scholarships (Fulbright, Chevening, etc.) are NOT standard services.

The Honest Truth About University Scholarships

⚠️ WHAT WE DO vs WHAT WE DON’T DO

✅ WHAT WE DO (Standard Service):
– University merit-based scholarships (automatic with application)
– Scholarship-friendly university identification
– Profile strengthening for merit eligibility
– Application optimization for scholarship consideration

❌ WHAT WE DON’T DO(Standard Packages):
– External fully-funded scholarships (Fulbright, Chevening, Commonwealth)
– Government scholarship applications (DAAD, Australia Awards, etc.)
– Foundation scholarships (Aga Khan, Rotary, etc.)
– Separate scholarship essay writing services

Exception:
External/fully-funded scholarships handled as EXCEPTIONAL CASE only (separate written agreement, case-by-case evaluation, additional fees). Not included in standard packages (PKR 75K, 50K, 30K, 5K).

Why This Approach?
– University merit scholarships: 35-40% success rate (realistic)
– External fully-funded scholarships: <5% success rate globally (extremely competitive)
– We focus on realistic, achievable outcomes for most students

Realistic Scholarship Outcomes

NO SCHOLARSHIP (60-65% of students)

Reality: Most students do NOT receive scholarships
– 60-65% of students proceed self-funded (normal, expected)
– This is NOT failure – universities still admit, you can still study abroad
– Scholarships are bonus, not guarantee

What This Means:
– Budget as if NO scholarship (self-funded plan primary)
– Scholarship if received = pleasant surprise, reduces cost
– Don’t delay applications hoping for scholarships – apply to universities, if scholarship comes, great!

Advice: Treat scholarships as “nice to have,” not “must have.”

SMALL SCHOLARSHIP (25-30% of students)

PKR 1-3 Lakh/Year (CAD 2,500-5,000, AUD 3,000-5,000, USD 2,500-5,000)

Reality: Most scholarships are SMALL, not life-changing
– Reduces tuition by 10-20% (helpful but not full coverage)
– Example: CAD 30,000 tuition – CAD 5,000 scholarship = CAD 25,000 remaining (PKR 56 lakh)
– Still need significant funds (savings, loan, family support)

What This Means:
– Every bit helps (PKR 2 lakh/year × 2 years = PKR 4 lakh total saved)
– But doesn’t drastically change funding requirement
– Still need robust financial plan

Advice: Appreciate small scholarships, don’t dismiss them. PKR 4 lakh saved is real money!

MODERATE SCHOLARSHIP (8-10% of students)

PKR 3-7 Lakh/Year (CAD 5,000-10,000, AUD 5,000-10,000, USD 5,000-10,000)

Reality: Meaningful reduction, but still not “full ride”
– Reduces tuition by 20-40% (significant help)
– Example: CAD 30,000 tuition – CAD 10,000 scholarship = CAD 20,000 remaining (PKR 45 lakh)
– Makes study abroad more affordable, but family contribution still needed

What This Means:
– Real financial relief (PKR 14 lakh saved over 2 years)
– Combined with part-time work abroad = makes education accessible
– Still need upfront funding for first year (before part-time earnings)

Advice: This is excellent outcome! Celebrate if you receive this level of scholarship.

LARGE SCHOLARSHIP (<2% of students)

PKR 7-15 Lakh/Year (CAD 10,000-20,000, AUD 10,000-20,000, USD 10,000-20,000)

Reality: Rare, exceptional students only
– Requires: 3.7+ GPA, strong test scores (IELTS 7.5+, GRE 320+), leadership, achievements
– Reduces tuition by 40-70% (major financial relief)
– Example: CAD 30,000 tuition – CAD 15,000 scholarship = CAD 15,000 remaining (PKR 34 lakh)

What This Means:
– Study abroad becomes significantly more affordable
– May not need education loan if family can cover reduced costs
– Prestigious (looks great on CV)

Advice: Don’t count on this. If you have 3.7+ GPA + exceptional profile, possible. Otherwise, budget for smaller scholarships.

FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP (<1% of students)

PKR 15+ Lakh/Year (Full tuition covered, living expenses usually NOT covered)

Reality: Extremely rare at Master’s level (more common at PhD)
– Requires: 3.9+ GPA, perfect test scores, research publications, exceptional achievements
– Even if full tuition covered, still need funds for living expenses (PKR 15-20 lakh/year)

What This Means:
– Study abroad becomes much cheaper (only living costs)
– Example: CAD 30,000 tuition scholarship + CAD 15,000 living = still need CAD 15,000 (PKR 34 lakh) for living

Advice: This is lottery-level outcome. Don’t rely on this for your study abroad plan. If you receive it = amazing! But budget as if you won’t.

Average Scholarship (Among Recipients)

Average Scholarship: PKR 3-4 Lakh/Year
– Most scholarships fall in PKR 1-5 lakh/year range
– Average 2-year savings: PKR 6-8 lakh total
– Helpful, but not “free education”

Honest Takeaway:
– Scholarships reduce cost, don’t eliminate cost
– You still need strong financial plan (savings, loan, family support)
– Scholarship if received = bonus, makes things easier
– Don’t delay study abroad waiting for “full scholarship” (unlikely to come)

How University Merit Scholarships Work

What Are Merit Scholarships? & Types

University Merit Scholarships:
– Automatic awards based on academic strength (GPA, test scores, achievements)
– No separate application needed (considered automatically when you apply for admission)
– Awarded by university from their scholarship budget
– Purpose: Attract strong students to university

How They Work:
1. You apply to university (admission application)
2. University reviews your application (grades, test scores, essays, achievements)
3. Admission committee awards scholarship IF you’re strong candidate (not everyone gets)
4. Offer letter states: “Admitted + PKR X scholarship awarded”

Example:
– You apply to University of Toronto (Master’s in CS)
– Your GPA: 3.6, IELTS: 7.5, strong SOP
– U of T reviews application
– Offer letter: “Congratulations! Admitted with CAD 7,500/year scholarship”
– You did NOT apply for scholarship separately – it was automatic consideration

Key Point:
Not everyone gets scholarships. Universities award to competitive applicants.

1

Types of Merit Scholarships

TYPE 1: ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Awarded based on admission application strength
– Example: “Dean’s Entrance Scholarship” – CAD 5,000/year
– Criteria: High GPA (typically 3.5+), strong test scores
– Automatic: Yes (no separate application)
– Renewable: Usually yes (maintain certain GPA in first year to keep in second year)

TYPE 2: PROGRAM-SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Tied to specific programs/faculties
– Example: “Faculty of Engineering Excellence Award” – AUD 8,000/year
– Criteria: Program-specific (engineering students only)
– Why They Exist: Some programs have more scholarship budgets than others (STEM often more funded)
– Strategic Tip: Applying to scholarship-rich programs increases chances

TYPE 3: INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Specifically for international (non-domestic) students
– Example: “International Student Scholarship” – USD 5,000/year
– Criteria: Being international student + strong academic profile
– Why They Exist: Universities want diverse student body, attract international talent
– Common in: USA, Australia (Canada/UK less common)

TYPE 4: COUNTRY-SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Designated for students from specific countries/regions
– Example: “Pakistan Student Scholarship” – CAD 3,000/year
– Criteria: Being from Pakistan + meeting academic threshold
– Why They Exist: Some universities have partnerships with specific countries
– Rare: Not every university offers these

TYPE 5: TUITION WAIVERS / DISCOUNTS
Not called “scholarship” but same effect (tuition reduction)
– Example: “20% Tuition Discount for International Students”
– How It Works: Tuition normally CAD 30,000 → You pay CAD 24,000 (20% off)
– Automatic: Usually yes, or simple checkbox during application
– Common in: Some universities advertise these openly

2

Top Scholarships: RM 10,000-15,000/year (PKR 5.5-8.25 lakh)
Note: Malaysia cheapest overall cost, so smaller scholarships still meaningful percentage reduction

Our Merit Scholarship Support Process

Step-by-Step Process

1

SCHOLARSHIP-FRIENDLY UNIVERSITY IDENTIFICATION

What We Do:
✓ Research which universities offer automatic merit scholarships (not all do!)
✓ Identify programs with higher scholarship budgets (STEM often better funded than humanities)
✓ Analyze your profile strength (are you competitive for scholarships?)
✓ Create shortlist prioritizing scholarship-friendly options

How We Research:
– University websites (scholarship pages – which awards available, criteria)
– Historical data (which universities gave our previous students scholarships)
– Program-specific research (does CS program offer more scholarships than MBA?)
– Application timing (early applications often get better scholarship consideration)

Example:
Your Profile: 3.5 GPA, IELTS 7.0, Master’s in CS
Our Research Finds:
– University A: Offers automatic scholarships for 3.4+ GPA (you’re competitive!)
– University B: No merit scholarships (prestigious but expensive)
– University C: STEM scholarship (CS students eligible)
We prioritize A and C in your shortlist = maximize scholarship chances.

Result:
Your 8-12 university shortlist includes scholarship-friendly universities strategically placed.

2

PROFILE STRENGTHENING FOR MERIT ELIGIBILITY

What We Do:
✓ Assess your current scholarship competitiveness (where do you stand?)
✓ Identify strengths to highlight (achievements, leadership, research)
✓ Suggest profile improvements if time permits (retake IELTS for higher band? Gain specific experience?)

Profile Factors Universities Consider:
– GPA (most important – 3.5+ competitive, 3.7+ excellent)
– Test scores (IELTS 7.0+ better chances, 7.5+ excellent)
– Achievements (awards, scholarships, dean’s list during Bachelor’s)
– Leadership (club president, volunteer coordinator, team lead at work)
– Research (publications, projects – especially for STEM)
– Work experience (relevant internships/jobs)

How We Help Strengthen:
– Highlight existing achievements in SOP (many students undersell themselves)
– Suggest activities if time permits (example: “You have 6 months before applying – consider publishing a paper or leading a project”)
– Strategic positioning (frame your profile as scholarship-worthy in application materials)

Example:
Student has 3.4 GPA (okay but not great), but also:
– Won national coding competition
– Published 1 research paper
– Worked as TA (teaching assistant) for 2 semesters
– Led university CS club (100+ members)

We highlight these achievements prominently in SOP and CV → Scholarship awarded despite “average” GPA because holistic profile strong!

Result:
Your application materials present you as strong scholarship candidate (even if GPA not perfect).

3

APPLICATION OPTIMIZATION FOR AUTOMATIC SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION

What We Do:
✓ Write compelling SOPs (showcase your strengths – academic, leadership, potential)
✓ Optimize CV (highlight achievements first, quantify impact)
✓ Coordinate strong LORs (recommenders emphasize your scholarship-worthiness)
✓ Apply early (early applicants often get first access to scholarship budgets)

SOP Scholarship Strategy:
– Paragraph 1: Strong opening (capture attention – you’re exceptional candidate)
– Paragraph 2-3: Academic excellence (GPA, relevant coursework, research)
– Paragraph 4: Achievements (awards, leadership, impactful projects)
– Paragraph 5: Why this university (show you’re informed, committed)
– Paragraph 6: Career goals (ambitious yet realistic)
– Paragraph 7: Closing (reiterate your fit, express enthusiasm)

Tone: Confident but not arrogant. “I’ve demonstrated academic excellence through…” not “I’m the best student ever.”

CV Optimization:
– Education section first (highlight GPA prominently if 3.5+)
– Achievements section (awards, scholarships, honors)
– Quantify impact (“Led team of 10,” “Improved efficiency by 25%,” “Published in IEEE journal”)

LOR Strategy:
– Brief recommenders (ask them to emphasize your scholarship potential)
– Provide: CV, list of achievements (so recommenders can reference specific accomplishments)
– Strong phrases recommenders should use: “top 5% of students I’ve taught,” “exceptional analytical skills,” “natural leader”

Early Application:
– Round 1 (Sep-Nov): Scholarship budgets full
– Round 2 (Dec-Feb): Scholarship budgets depleting
– Round 3 (Mar-May): Scholarship budgets mostly exhausted (still can get, but less likely)
– We prioritize scholarship-friendly universities for Round 1 applications

Result
Your applications are optimized to catch scholarship committees’ attention.

4

SCHOLARSHIP TRACKING & ACCEPTANCE GUIDANCE

After Applications Submitted:

What We Track:
✓ Admission offers (which universities admitted you?)
✓ Scholarship awards (which universities offered scholarships? How much?)
✓ Scholarship terms (renewable? Conditions to maintain?)

Comparing Offers:
You may receive multiple offers with different scholarship amounts:
– University A: Admitted, CAD 5,000/year scholarship
– University B: Admitted, CAD 0 scholarship (full tuition)
– University C: Admitted, CAD 10,000/year scholarship

We help you compare:

Factor 1: Net Cost (Most Important)
– University A: CAD 30,000 tuition – CAD 5,000 = CAD 25,000/year (PKR 56 lakh)
– University B: CAD 28,000 tuition – CAD 0 = CAD 28,000/year (PKR 63 lakh)
– University C: CAD 35,000 tuition – CAD 10,000 = CAD 25,000/year (PKR 56 lakh)
Net cost: A and C tied for cheapest (same after scholarship)

Factor 2: Program Quality
– University C higher ranked, better program in your field
– Recommendation: Choose C (same cost as A but better program)

Factor 3: Scholarship Renewal Terms
– University C scholarship: “Renewable if maintain 3.3 GPA”
– This is reasonable (maintainable)
– University D scholarship (if you had this offer): “Renewable if maintain 3.7 GPA”
– This is risky (hard to maintain, may lose scholarship in second year)
– We advise on renewal terms (realistic to maintain?)

Factor 4: Total Degree Cost (Not Just Year 1)
– Some scholarships only for Year 1 (check carefully!)
– Example: CAD 10,000 scholarship Year 1, CAD 0 Year 2 → Average CAD 5,000/year
– We verify scholarship duration (1 year? 2 years? Full program?)

Final Decision Support:
We provide spreadsheet comparing all offers:
– University name
– Tuition (before scholarship)
– Scholarship amount
– Net cost (after scholarship)
– Living expenses (varies by city)
– Total 2-year cost
– Program ranking
– Scholarship renewal terms

You choose best fit university with our guidance.

Result:
You make informed decision – best university at best price with scholarship factored in.

What Our Students Actually Receive (Honest Data)

Ali’s track record 2021-2026

1

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS: 35-40% (105-120 students out of 300+ guided since 2021)

Based on Ali Hassan’s Track Record (2021-2026)
*
This data reflects Ali Hassan’s 5+ years of consulting experience (2021-2026), now formalized under Hoist Horizons Consultancy (est. January 2026).

Breakdown:
– 60-65% (180-195 students): NO scholarship → Self-funded, still successful!
– 25-30% (75-90 students): SMALL scholarship (PKR 1-3 lakh/year)
– 8-10% (24-30 students): MODERATE scholarship (PKR 3-7 lakh/year)
– <2% (<6 students): LARGE scholarship (PKR 7-15 lakh/year)

Average Scholarship (Among Recipients): PKR 3-4 lakh/year
Average Total Savings (2-year program): PKR 7 lakh

Success Factors (Students Who Received Scholarships):
– GPA: 90% had 3.4+ GPA (strong academics critical)
– Test Scores: 85% had IELTS 7.0+ or TOEFL 95+ (high proficiency helps)
– Achievements: 75% had awards, leadership roles, or research (holistic strength)
– University Selection: 100% applied to scholarship-friendly universities (strategic targeting works!)
– Early Application: 70% applied in Round 1 (Sep-Nov – timing matters)

Success Factors (Students Who Did NOT Receive Scholarships):
– GPA: Many had <3.2 GPA (below scholarship thresholds)
– No Achievements: Only academics, no leadership or extracurriculars (not holistically strong)
– Late Application: Applied in Round 3 (Mar-May – scholarship budgets depleted)
– Wrong University Selection: Applied to universities that don’t offer scholarships

Key Takeaway:
Scholarships are achievable (35-40% of students receive something), but NOT guaranteed. Strong profile + strategic selection = best chances.

2

Country-by-Country Scholarship Success

– 20% of our students studying in Malaysia received scholarships
– Average: RM 5,000/year (PKR 2.75 lakh)
– Why Smaller Amounts: Malaysia tuition already cheap (RM 25-35K/year), so scholarships smaller in absolute terms but still meaningful % reduction

What About External Fully-Funded Scholarships?

⚠️ EXTERNAL FULLY-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS (Fulbright, Chevening, etc.):

NOT Included in Standard Packages (PKR 75K, 50K, 30K, 25K)

If You Want Support for External Scholarships:
– Treated as EXCEPTIONAL CASE
– Requires separate written agreement
– Case-by-case evaluation (we may decline if your profile not competitive)
– Additional fees: Custom quotation (depending on number of scholarships, scope of support)
– Success rate: <5% globally (we’re honest about low probability)
– Timeline: 4-6 months intensive work (separate essays, applications for each scholarship)

Why Separate?
– External scholarships require extensive separate work (different from university applications)
– Success rate too low to include in standard packages (would mislead students)
– We focus standard services on realistic outcomes (university merit scholarships)

Eligibility for Custom External Scholarship Package:
– GPA 3.8+ (exceptional academics)
– Significant achievements (leadership, research, community impact)
– Strong English (IELTS 7.5+, TOEFL 100+)
– Realistic understanding of <5% success rate
– Backup plan (can self-fund if external scholarship doesn’t work out)

If you meet these criteria and want to pursue Fulbright/Chevening

Contact us to discuss custom package.

FAQs

Do you guarantee scholarships?

No. Scholarships are awarded by universities based on academic merit and their budget availability. We maximize your chances through strategic university selection and strong applications, but cannot guarantee scholarships. 35-40% of our students receive merit scholarships (realistic success rate).

Full tuition scholarships possible but rare (<1% of students). Living expenses almost never covered by merit scholarships (you need to fund living through savings, part-time work, or family support). Budget for full costs, treat scholarships as bonus if received.

No. Apply now. If scholarship awarded = great! If not = you can still study (self-funded or with education loan). Delaying risks missing admission cycles and deadlines. Most students (60-65%) study abroad self-funded successfully – scholarships are helpful but not mandatory.

These are external fully-funded scholarships, NOT included in our standard packages. Extremely competitive (<5% success rate globally). We handle these ONLY as exceptional case with separate agreement + additional fees. If interested, contact us to discuss eligibility and custom package.

✓ Improve GPA (3.5+ competitive, 3.7+ excellent)
✓ Achieve high test scores (IELTS 7.0+, TOEFL 95+)
✓ Build holistic profile (leadership, achievements, research)
✓ Apply early (Round 1: Sep-Nov – scholarship budgets full)
✓ Target scholarship-friendly universities (we identify these)
✓ Write compelling SOP (showcase strengths convincingly)

Sometimes. If you receive admission but no scholarship (or small scholarship), you can:
– Email university: Request scholarship reconsideration, highlight your strengths
– Show competing offers: “University X offered me CAD 5K, can you match?”
– Success rate: ~10-15% (some universities negotiate, others don’t)
We can guide this process, but universities aren’t obligated to negotiate.

No. Per our Refund Policy, scholarship outcomes are NOT grounds for refund. Scholarship awards are decided by universities, not us. Our service is guidance + strategic planning (maximizing chances), not guaranteeing outcomes. Most students (60-65%) study abroad self-funded – this is normal and expected.

Usually YES, with conditions. Typical renewal condition: “Maintain 3.0-3.5 GPA in Year 1 to keep scholarship in Year 2.” This is generally maintainable if you study diligently. Always check renewal terms in offer letter – we help you understand conditions.
